FSRU Enters Qatar Drydock for Maintenance

A floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) owned by U.S. based Excelerate Energy will undergo drydocking, maintenance and upgrades at the Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Qatar, prior to its deployment in Bangladesh.

The drydocking of FSRU Excelerate, announced Tuesday by Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), marks the first FSRU project for the yard known for its work with gas carriers.

FSRU Excelerate will undergo several modifications and retrofitting of new systems, including the installation of a ballast water treatment system (BWTS). To date, N-KOM has completed six such BWTS installations for various vessel types, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and very large crude carriers (VLCC).

Nakilat acquired a 55% interest in its first FSRU Exquisite back in 2018, after forming a joint venture agreement with Excelerate Energy-USA. This acquisition paved the way for Nakilat to widen its international footprint and take its first step into a new business segment.

Earlier last week, Exquisite completed its 200th ship-to-ship transfer of LNG at the Engro Elengy terminal (EETL) in Pakistan’s Port Qasim.
