The Scottish energy group Xodus Group has appointed Phil Cooper as a new corporate development director to support the continued growth of the company.

The Aberdeen-based international energy consultancy said in a press release that Cooper has more than 35 years of experience and was most recently London general manager at Heerema Marine Contractors where he led a team of engineers engaged in heavy lift and subsea technical activities.

Previously, he was the global technology director at INTECSEA and was responsible for defining and delivering its technology strategy.

This new role will see Cooper strengthen the Xodus leadership team as the business enters a new phase of growth in the UK and beyond, in response to increasing global demand for expert technical services across the energy industry.

Cooper said: “I am excited to be joining Xodus as the energy industry begins to turn the corner and rebuild after several difficult years. I have always admired the breadth and depth of expertise in Xodus, as well as their agility and entrepreneurial spirit.

“I look forward to working closely with my new colleagues around the world as Xodus continues to develop and grow.”

Steve Swindell, managing director of Xodus said: “Through senior roles in both engineering and construction, Phil has gained an international reputation for his work in the industry. He has a unique blend of in-depth technical knowledge which stretches across many engineering disciplines.

“We are in no doubt that his experience and expertise will help us build our reputation as a leading consultancy around the world as we target projects in new as well as existing markets.”

Cooper gained a B Tech (1st Class Hons.) in mechanical engineering at Loughborough University before working in several engineering consultancy roles. He gained a grounding of the offshore sector while leading a UK specialist FEA consultancy team at Lusas before helping to establish KW Ltd and developing advanced analysis capabilities for the oil and gas sector.

Cooper is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
