Noble newbuild damaged in Singapore

March 2, 2016

Offshore drilling contractor Noble Corp. reported that its newbuild jackup rig, Noble Lloyd Noble, sustained damage last month at the Sembcorp Marine Jurong shipyard in Singapore, following the collapse of a crane.

The incident resulted in minor injuries to certain shipyard personnel as well, Noble said.

Damage on the jackup, which is in the late stages of construction, appears to be confined to one area of the rig, including damage to one of the rig's cranes.

The Singapore Ministry of Manpower has commenced an investigation into the cause of the incident, and access to the rig is limited during the initial phase of the investigation.

Construction on Noble Lloyd Noble was scheduled for completion in Q2 2016. The rig was expected to commence a four-year primary term contract with Statoil during Q3 2016, with the contract stipulating a commencement date of no later than 1 March 2017.

A thorough rig damage assessment is now required before a revised schedule of delivery and contract commencement can be determined.
